Career

Dr. Ingvarsdottir worked as a Cunsultant in obstetrics & gynecology at the Women Clinic at Örebro hospital and then at Ostra Hospital in Gothenburg in Sweden between 1984 and 1991. Dr. Ingvarsdottir has had her private practice as an OB/GYN Specialist, first at ABO Gynecology Clinic in Kringlan between 1992 and 2003 and then at her own gynecological clinic in Skipholt since 2003.

From 1992  Dr. Ingvarsdottir has also held a part time position as an OB/GYN Specialist and Consultant in the Maternal Care Unit at the Reykjavik Primary Health Care of the Reykjavik Area.

Furthermore, since the opening of the Emergency Ward for Rape in 1993, Dr. Ingvarsdottir has served as a medical expert and given her expert testimony in many court cases related to sexual abuse.

Besides her interests in OB/GYN, Dr. Ingvarsdottir has developed particular  interests in issues related to maternal care and women´s health in general.   She frequently attends professional conferences and courses in her speciality, both internationally and in Iceland.

Education

Dr. Ingvarsdottir graduated from University of Iceland Medical School in 1979.  In 1981 she obtained her Icelandic licence to practice general medicine.    During 1984 to 1997, Dr. Ingvarsdottir studied obstetrics & gynecology ath the University Hospital in ÖREBRO and completed residency training in OB/GYN at Ostra Hospital in Gothenburg in Sweden in 1987. In 1988 she obtained her licence to practice obstetrics & gynecology in Iceland.
